My Other Sites
Lynth.co.uk
Website I set up to publicise
the fantasy novel I've been writing.
Welcome
To Cyberspace
My previous attempt at
a webcomic, drawn about three years ago now. My art wasn't great back then
(actually, it was quite bad) but I leave it up anyway.
Webcomics
Now we get to the good stuff... Webcomics
that I personally recommend.

The Order of the Stick
Stick figure comic parodying
Dungeons and Dragons. Now, when I say stick figure, you probably don't realise
that I mean high-quality vector-based graphics with more personality than
blobs of pixels should have. But the main selling point is the writing. This
guy is a genius at both storytelling and humor. Some of the jokes, particularly
in the early pages, may be a little hard to get if you're not a gamer, but
there's plenty of plot and character-based humor too.

Corner Alley 13
Manga-style comic about
various fantasy creatures that have emigrated to the USA. It sounds surreal,
and it is, but it also manages to be a fantastic satire on racism and US culture.
Myralice
The art in this is purdy-purdy. :) It's about a troubled girl who ends
up trapped in the video game she created. The site is down at the time I'm
writing this, but there's a link to a place you can view the pages.

No Rest for the Wicked
Retells several fairytales
at once. Features Puss-In-Boots, an insomniac princess, and a VERY psychotic
Little Red Riding Hood. The art is teh purdy.

Scott McCloud.com
Wasn't sure whether to
put this in Webcomics or Sites That Aren't Webcomics But Are Also Good, since
it DOES host webcomics but is mostly the Scott McCloud's personal page. Comics
fans will know Scott McCloud as a pro comics artist who wrote the book Understanding
Comics and is a big advocate of Webcomics. His most recent book, Making Comics,
was a major influence on me. I think he's great.
An honorary mention here for the first webcomic I ever read, SunDowner. It last updated many, many years ago, and when I went to find it to confirm the link, I found the site had died. But it was the webcomic that interested me in the medium, and it deserves a mention. The portfolio site of the artist can be found here.
Sites That Aren't Webcomics
But Are Also Good
Um... yeah.
The
Future Fire
Speculative ficton webzine. Concentrates
on darker, stranger examples of the genre.
ChewTV
Based in Cornwall, ChewTV
is an internet TV channel run by and for young people, broadcasting the aforementioned
young people's films across the internet. They're cool. They linked to me.
Go check them out.
National
Novel Writing Month
Write 50,000 words in a
month--November, to be exact. Helix Industries began as a NaNo-novel, written
in November 2006. I don't have time to try it again this year, but it's a
very fun, if crazy, challenge.
Notebook
In Hand
Forum for writers, artists,
musicians, and other creative types. I named the scientist Essence kills in
Chapter One after one of the members. (It was a NaNo dare. Sorry, Maulden.)
TV
Tropes
A wiki listing all the common tropes used in TV, movies, books and other
forms of storytelling, with examples. Informal yet informative, and very,
VERY addictive.
Blambots
A directory of free fonts.
Some (in fact, most) of the fonts used in Helix Industries come from here.
RSSpect
The Helix Industries RSS feed is powered by RSSpect.com. Free RSS feeds for
all!
