Essence is the 23rd subject of a mysterious experiment. She was raised in the Helix Industries Institute of Science and has had an extremely sheltered life. She is a very powerful psychic, although she sometimes has trouble controlling her powers.

Essence could, perhaps, be considered insane. She can form very strong emotional bonds to those she cares about, but those she doesn't know hardly even register to her. She doesn't see the world in the same way other people do--perhaps this is due to her powers, perhaps it was caused by her upbringing. She is intelligent, but in many ways she is still, emotionally, a child.
